How To Reach Your Health Goals And Stick To Them
It is easy to start a new health journey whatever your goals may be, but the hardest part is actually sticking to it when the excitement wears off.
I have definitely been here time and time again with starting a new goal, and as the “newness” wears off I just stop doing it. As a Nutrition Counselor, I am always disciplined with healthy eating, but it has been such a challenge to be consistent in a workout routine. But, I finally figured out the key to sticking to and accomplishing any goal I set for myself.
I want to share with you the tools that I have learned that work! In this blog post I will be sharing:
The roadblocks I had to overcome mentally to reach my goals
How to slowly set goals and accomplish them to boost self confidence
How making a routine is huge in sticking with your goals
How decluttering and organizing can help you reach health goals
How treating yourself and practicing self care is important
So, if you are tired of starting something and going all in with enthusiasm, only finding yourself quitting mid way..then this blog is for you!! If you can follow these steps, I guarantee you will reach your goals…whatever they may be!!
The Roadblocks I Had To Overcome Mentally To Reach My Goals
For a long time I defined myself by my past. I would start something new, but this little voice always said, “you know you are just going to quit like you have everything else.” I have literally had leaders tell me, “my goal is for you to finish and not quit.” These words stuck in my head and I let them define me for so long.
I knew that what I told myself, and how I treated myself was the first step to actually sticking to my goals. I had to replace the lies I had told myself for so long, with what I wanted my truth to be. I had to truly start having compassion for myself the way I did for others, and stop being so hard on me.
Once I was able to truly be kind to myself, and know that those were all lies from the enemy…things started to shift. I started to see more clearly why I always quit. I have a tendency to go all in or I don’t feel I am doing enough, but the key to my success was truly taking things one step at a time.
How To Slowly Set Goals And Accomplish Them To Boost Self-Confidence
I started setting small goals for myself every month, and I was amazed at how differently I looked at myself when I did these small things I set for myself. The first month I said that I would do a 10 minute Pilates workout 3 times a week. The old me would have not been ok with this, and I would have talked myself into doing more…and then when I couldn’t maintain these big changes all at once I would down myself for quitting (see the vicious cycle).
Your goal can be anything, but only make 1 a month! You can set a goal to wake up earlier, do a short walk everyday, add a fruit or vegetable to your diet (if you are making diet changes it is important to slowly add healthy things before you go pulling things), going to bed at a decent time, not eating past a certain time, etc. The goals are endless, but please remember to only choose 1, and after a month when that is a habit, add on another goal!
How Making A Routine Is Huge In Sticking To Goals
I know that life happens and we cannot always stick to a set schedule, but for the most part we can have a set schedule! I have come to realize that even on the days I could sleep in, I feel better and stick to my goals easier if I don’t. Your day will look different than mine, so just choose something that gives you a great start to your day and works the best for you…and stick to it!
I will share what has worked for me: I get up at 5:30am every morning so that I can have my alone time to read my bible, and just wake up without feeling rushed. I don’t do well when I am bombarded as soon as I get out of the bed. I like to have an orange while I read my bible, and then have a cup of mushroom coffee as I am waiting for my crew to wake up. My days look different after that, but the most important thing for me is the morning routine. Yours might be an evening routine that is more important! Choose what helps you stay mentally grounded! Mental health is key to success!
How Decluttering and Organizing Can Help You Reach Health Goals
I know this sounds weird that organizing your home or space will play a big part in you sticking to your goals, but this has been a huge part of my success.
The first thing I did was start getting rid of stuff that I never used, and something about this helped me to get rid of internal baggage as well. There is something about holding on to the “what ifs”...like what if I need this piece of clothing in the future…well I feel like we also hold onto “what ifs” in life. By clearing out things materialistically, it even gives you a clearer picture mentally of how letting the old go can make room for the new.
After you have decluttered, then start organizing things to set your day up for success! If you have a place for everything, then when you do have that day you wake up feeling rushed…it will be smoother knowing where everything is. I like to do the dishes at night before going to bed (doesn’t always happen lol), because when I wake up I like not feeling weighed down from “yesterday”.
How treating yourself and practicing self care is important
You have to learn to treat yourself from time to time along this journey. When I start to reach my health goals, I like to buy myself a new pair of leggings or a workout top that I will feel amazing in. Or if I have stuck with a workout program for a month, I might get myself a cute pair of dumbbells. Seriously y’all, making a space cute just makes you want to work out lol…so make a little workout space just for you (and make it cute and not boring). It is like a brand new motivation along the way to use your cute gear!
It is also important to practice self care every step of this journey. I have an awesome resource library of the list of things I use to practice self care in a non toxic way (and cute workout gear to treat yourself to), so if you are interested Click Here to check it out!!
Also, check out my Products Page to see how I educate my immune system on a daily basis, so that sickness is 1 less thing to push through while I’m reaching my goals. I would recommend starting with Transfer Factor Classic, if you have not previously used these products. My Naturopathic Dr. introduced me to this, and as a Nutrition Counselor I am proud to be affiliated with this company!
I am truly praying for you as you embark on this journey, that you would reach all of the goals and dreams in your heart!! Don’t feel like you have to be like the world tells you and always be doing a million things, because real success is the little steps people take that no one else can see!! You’ve got this!!
